Chadar Trek

The region that I am going to talk about and is known to the globe as Zanskar is located towards the south-east of Leh and is together with this by the Himalayan, Zanskar ranges and mountains that border Zanskar and Kashmir valley. A brief proem as to how this trek became a reality- Chadar Trek. My part to standby and good fortune combine with innovative mood, I decided to take up Chadar Frozen River Trek. It was a seven day trek in inhospitable conditions. A winter trek over a frozen river in Ladakh! But if the cold and the starkness of the terrain is ignored, Chadar is not a difficult trek otherwise. Chadar means sheets and is used to refer to the trek along the frozen Zanskar. Zanskar Trek felt like step into arctic situation. My tenacity got tested by day 2 itself. It was damn cold. At that tricky time my multi-layers of clothing really helped me a lot. It was something that I just cannot describe in words. All my team members- not a crowded one- were having a good time though, including me. Crawling, scrambling, skating on ice- was a regular part of our fun routine and are some of the memorable experiences. The whole trip was an invigorating experience. Zanskar is one place in the world where inspite of so many hardships established, people out there are truly happy.
 

The Chadar Trek

      The journey starts at the mountain town of Leh. The only way to reach Leh is by flight and it is bounded by snow giving it a complete white look. One can catch a quick look of the snow capped mountains from the flight as it descends toward Leh which is located at 11400 feet above sea level. The Chadar, a superb white sheet of ice and snow which flows through some of the most rugged rock faces. And this setting makes it one of the most eye-catching treks in the world.  the present day it is one of the most required after treks in the Himalaya. The trek is over the Zanskar River which lies frozen during the winter. The most prefer time to cross the ice would be in February. During that time, the ice tends to be at its most stable state. The Frozen River Trek begins from the small village of Chilling from where the Zanskar River begins to freeze.
                             When the months of winter roll over, the roads of Ladakh are blanketed with inches of deep snow. During this season, the only way of travelling across the mountains is by trekking over the frozen Zanskar River.This trek over the thick sheet of ice, past frozen waterfalls and over barren rockfaces is famously known as the Chadar Trek. The trek holds the secrets of the beautiful Himalayas and enables a person to enjoy the mesmeric beauty of the snow clad mountains.This trek is an absolute must-do for those who have a flair for high altitude trekking and taking on challenges as they come in life.
